What is IVF?
IVF, or In Vitro Fertilization, is an assisted reproductive technique where female and male gametes (oocytes and sperm) are fertilized in an artificial environment.
For many cases of unexplained infertility, the only possibility for couples to fulfill their desire to become parents is to undergo In-Vitro Fertilisation treatment (IVF Treatment).
In Vitro Fertilization is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART), commonly referred to as IVF. The IVF process requires fertilization by extracting eggs (oocytes or gametes), retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining an egg and sperm outside of the female body in a laboratory dish. This is done via insemination, or an Intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
The then fertilized eggs (zygote) undergo embryo culture for 5 days until they reach the blastocyst stage. They are then surgically implanted into the woman’s uterus via a catheter, with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.
This reproductive medicine technique is complex and requires timely and careful preparation by a team of medical professionals and experts in fertility.

Who is IVF for?
In vitro fertilization is an effective method of treatment for most causes of infertility, and it can provide effective solutions for the following:
- Men with a low sperm count or poor sperm motility
- Women who suffer from premature ovarian failure, uterine fibroids or ovulation disorders
- Women who have had their fallopian tubes removed or are blocked
- Women who suffer from pelvic inflammatory disease
- Individuals with genetic disorders
- Unexplained infertility
- Women who have undergone a tubal ligation
- Men who have undergone a vasectomy
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an assisted reproduction technique within in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and is a solution for couples diagnosed with severe male factor infertility.
First, the man must provide a semen sample or must undergo a testicular biopsy (if leaving a semen sample is not possible). Then a single sperm (the best spermatozoa) is placed in a tiny pipette and injected directly into the mature ovum to fertilize it.
We use the ICSI fertilization technique in all of our IVF cycles. This is the most effective fertilization technique available, fertilizing 50% to 80% of eggs.
Artificial insemination (AI) is the deliberate introduction of sperm into a woman’s uterus or cervix for the purpose of achieving a pregnancy through in vitro fertilization by means other than sexual intercourse.
ilaya offers Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT). This is the process of testing cells for genetic diseases and abnormalities prior to implantation into the uterus. It is a process in which one or two cells from a day 5 embryo are extracted and genetically analysed. PGT can also be used to determine the sex of the baby if requested.
